2014 · XV

On 20–22 June 2014, the fifteenth anniversary edition of Kilkim Žaibu thundered through Varniai, beside Lake Lūkstas. Its theme, “the best return”, brought together festival friends and new guests. The anniversary line-up included Moonsorrow, Rotting Christ, Asphyx and Norway’s Wardruna, whose music, played on ancient instruments, was particularly at home amid the Midsummer celebrations.

Across three days, heavy music concerts were accompanied by summer solstice traditions. The living history area featured folk music, warrior battles, tribal contests and a craft village. Living history groups from Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, traditional craftspeople and folk performers complemented the music, inviting visitors to discover Baltic culture and take part in the celebrations themselves.

A professional team filmed the anniversary performances and recorded audio directly from the mixing desk. We initially considered releasing the festival on DVD, but ultimately decided to make the edited concert footage available online for free. It became our gift to participants and audiences, and a chance to revisit the fifteenth edition.
