 With great honour we present you original inventors and founders of Black Metal – VENOM! 

 They will headline KILKIM ŽAIBU XVII on June 25!

 During about forty years of Metal history there has been created dozens of incredibly technical, sophisticated albums with lyrics that analyze serious social and problems. And we guess that you have already understood that VENOM is not one of those bands. Their first albums’ quality was so poor that it may seem that they had been recorded in the Ninth Circle of Hell. The musicians have admitted that their playing technique at the time was not the best in the world. But who cares when just their music makes your head bang? When their melodies are so mesmerizing that in the middle of the song you catch yourself singing it along together with their iconic singer Cronos? That’s reason why VENOM became so popular and influential to other giants of Metal (including Slayer, Metallica, Hellhammer, Sodom etc.) and this is the best evidence about who are the real godfathers of Metal.

 VENOM musically could be described like that: the members of the band had been fed with NWOBHM and Punk Rock and they just threw up everything – and it was filthy, raw and fast music. They were inspired by such bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motörhead and Kiss. However, according to Cronos, Ozzy would sing something about darkness and Satan and after that he screamed “Oh no, God help me!”  It certainly did not work for VENOM. Back then, many bands created their music about evil, but VENOM as band itself WAS evil. They are the first to be recognized by their distorted sound and rusty vocals. The solos from first albums are so misty and obscure that you can fill them with your own notes and the melody still remains the same. These factors are the main answer to the question why VENOM is such a significant band in the history of Metal.

 In the beginning members gathered from three bands: Guillotine, Oberon and Dwarfstar and they started playing in 1979. In the first two albums “Welcome to Hell” and “Black Metal” they formed their distinctive style which induced a new genre called Black Metal (which shouldn’t be confused with Norwegian BM, which has been formed later). The popularity of these albums still doesn’t fade away and songs like “Black Metal”, “In League with Satan” or “Countess Bathory” are just legendary. Though they‘ve sought their path forthright but in the third album “At War With Satan” you also can find some progressive stuff, which proves that VENOM can be a “serious” band but the music still is ass-kicking. In the first albums the main topics were satan, alcohol, women and metal - topics which inspired thousands of young metalheads to create own bands and laid base for such styles as black metal, speed metal, thrash metal to name a few.

 VENOM’s heart and soul – it is the vocalist and bassist Cronos. Already for many years he is accompanied by talented guitarist Rage and drum wizard Danté. You only can love them or find them disgusting. Well, or love them because they are disgusting. And no matter what you think about them, it‘s a fact that VENOM is one of the bands which you MUST see before you die!
