Bands becoming legendary with a single album in their discography are not that common… Yet ZPOAN VTENZ is one of them. This is one of the first Baltic folk/pagan metal bands in Lithuania with a recipe for success in the mid. 1990s: combining Lithuanian mythology and folk with heavy guitar riffs, glorifying our history, ancestors, and our homeland.
Silent for years, the band was revived in 2024. Their return to the anniversary of KILKIM ŽAIBU is very symbolic – after all, ZPOAN VTENZ were in the lineup of the very first edition! Their epic work with elements of drama, and even tragedy, is still relevant and emotionally-capturing today. The team from Utena was always up for experiments, enriching their heavy music with electronic sounds, samples or other weird audio experiments. Perhaps that was the reason why Gimę Nugalėt – the (so far) first and only album – remains one of the most impressive Lithuanian records of all time.
Of course, ZPOAN VTENZ will not be the same: their mesmerizing vocal – Vilma – has left this world more than fifteen years ago… nevertheless, this euphoric comeback and the aura surrounding the band are damn intriguing! Let their hymns, like ‘Jos Brolis in Karelį’ and ‘Gimę Nugalėt’ echo in our ears and inspire our hearts in times when we need it most!
