Iceland has always been known for its atypical, sensationally creative, and distinctive black metal scene. The rapidly rising band NEXION successfully joins the ranks of its country’s black metal creators. With their latest release, the band ascends to a new creative level and new heights of activity. “Sundrung“ is a dark, ritualistic black metal album that conveys the full essence of NEXION.
In their music, the Icelanders incorporate the fundamental traits of today’s modern black metal: atmospheric and majestic, enhanced by a touch of death metal influence, mysterious, dark, and fast. The music features vivid and melodic guitar parts, along with abundant choral vocal arrangements – altogether creating a sense of space and giving NEXION’s sound a ritualistic aspect. It comes as no surprise that the band’s lineup includes former members of SVARTIDAUÐI, FORTÍÐ, and SÓLSTAFIR – the collective’s music is composed and performed at the highest level.
Released last autumn, “Sundrung“ was issued by the Italian label Avantgarde Music, which is a mark of quality. As generations change within Iceland’s heavy music scene, NEXION stands out as one of the most promising bands, playing aggressively, brutally, and atypically – even by the standards of their native scene.
