If you’re at least a little into the metal scene, MAYHEM needs no introduction... It’s not just a band. It’s a phenomenon and a legend. It was namely these Norwegians, who shaped and are responsible for the emergence of the so-called second wave of Black Metal, and the development and popularization of Black Metal as a genre and cultural phenomenon. Musical extremism and mysticism, theatrics on stage, rumours, myths and reality – the history of MAYHEM is full of secrets and intrigues.
This band has never become a conveyor belt, releasing only six full-length albums during their entire four-decade career, but this does not take away anything from their cult and undeniable status; especially since it was namely MAYHEM that released what is probably the most essential and best-known Black Metal album – De Mysteriis dom Sathanas [1994]... Each of their records is exquisite, ever-changing and spicy, sometimes rich with the classic sound of the genre, and sometimes – crooked and atypical, but always intriguing – both in terms of musical passages and the charisma and status of the band’s frontman Attila Csihar.
It is namely the innovativeness and undying aura of the band that keeps MAYHEM still relevant today. The members of the band are keen participants of various forms of art, still searching, diving deeper and discovering new forms of self-expression even after so many years. The Norwegian horde will arrive to KILKIM ŽAIBU festival with a unique 40th anniversary programme, featuring extraordinary stage work, a huge screen, and other surprises. This performance will close a certain chapter and will be never repeated. Literally, a one-of-a-kind experience!
