KATAKLYSM

One of the best-known names on the Canadian heavy music scene, KATAKLYSM crossed both geographical and genre boundaries a long time ago. Shortly after forming, the quartet was already being hailed as one of the fastest bands in the world, attracting the attention of not only fans but also music critics and record labels. It’s hardly surprising, then, that after releasing their very first demo, the Canadians were immediately welcomed into the fold of industry giants Nuclear Blast Records. And, as it happens, they’re still there to this day...
Due to the complexity and sheer speed of their music, and especially its blisteringly intense drumming, KATAKLYSM’s style has been dubbed Northern hyperblast. While some revel in the band’s aggressive, chaotic sound, others complain of stomach trouble — the Canadians’ music has often been described as “quite hard to digest.” Yet it is precisely the sheer energy of their guitar riffs and the demanding nature of their drum parts that set KATAKLYSM apart.
Although the band has never forgotten its musical roots, it was their innovative approach to songwriting and refusal to stand still that earned them widespread recognition. Today, their music incorporates elements of melodic death metal, deathcore, and old-school death metal, while every new release is met with positive reviews from critics. This is precisely why KATAKLYSM appeal to both seasoned veterans who value tradition and consistency and a younger generation of metalheads who favour creativity and musical innovation.
