Two well-known aces of the Lithuanian music scene – Algirdas Kaušpėdas, leader of the legendary band Antis, and Viktoras Diawara, guitarist of the modern group Skamp – joined forces under the sharply titled project KANDIS. By blending pop and electronic music influences into a cohesive whole, the artists convey a subtle, sometimes ironic view of the present and of history, while at the same time giving the timeless hits of Antis a second – yet very different – life.
Having started their collaboration back in 2018, the musicians have released two albums so far: Už poliarinio rato and ANTIS kaip KAnDIs. The first features original new compositions, while the second reimagines well-known Antis hits such as “Zombiai,” “Alyvos,” and “Kažkas atsitiko,” reworked with contemporary rhythms, sound, and atmosphere. Different, yet at the same time familiar and recognizable. Different eras, the same issues – and it is up to us which direction we choose to take.
Just a few days ago, the group presented a new version of the patriotic Antis song “Lietuvos valstybė” with the message: “It is a call not to surrender to chaos.” Within half a week, the video has already been viewed more than 200,000 times.
Introducing KANDIS to a broader audience of heavy music fans is a bold step, yet the musicians promise an experience unlike anything previously seen or heard on stage. The duo stands out for their musical experiments, reimagined hits, and unforgettable stage performances. Visitors of KILKIM ŽAIBU can expect the heaviest and most patriotic KANDIS program yet!
