Predecessor of Dalriada was formed back in the beginning of 1998, consisting of two guitars, bass, drums and a lead singer, in Sopron / Hungary.

The band was into classic heavy / power metal, although at that time some Hungarian and Celtic folk elements were already identifiable in their music.

Between 1999 and 2001 a female violinist joined their ranks; her arrival turned the band’s profile even more toward folk metal, which was quite new and undiscovered back then.

After the tragic death of one of the group’s founding members, the early days’ lineup fell apart, all demo recordings of that era got lost. The remaining members were desperately looking for a new singer and a drummer – Laura arrived in the beginning of 2001, Tadeusz followed her a couple of months later.

Namegiving of Dalriada, completion of a new lineup and release of the first, semi-professional EP followed the joining of György Varga, the new bassist, in 2003.

Since then, the band has been permanently working on new albums and gigs, it is more and more present in the Hungarian, and even in the international metal scene. Due to loads of concerts, musical and personal conflicts, and other reasons, there have been several changes of members since 2003, yet it didn’t take the wind out of Dalriada’s sails.

Since the release of their fifth CD, Arany-Album, Dalriada plays regularly on bigger gigs and also does the recordings together with one of Hungary’s greatest folk ensembles, The Fajkusz Band, who play authentic Hungarian music.

The release of their album Ígéret (Promise) in 2011 came hand in hand with a record deal at German metal label AFM Records. Thanks to this big step, the album has been promoted and sold on the whole world.

In Autumn 2012 and with the release of 'Napisten hava' (Season of the Sungod - at Nail Records and Einheit Produktionen) the band embarked on a Europe-wide tour with Arkona and Darkest Era.

In early 2013 Ádám Csete (who played in their video 'A dudás') joined their ranks as a bagpipe-player

Dalriada’s repeatedly outstanding results in Hungarian Top 40 albums’ rankings, the views of their videos and their constantly growing crowd of supporters and fans demonstrate the worldwide demand for this kind of epic, authentic, folkoristic, ancient and narrative metal.
