    DAJ OGNIA

    Dark Folk | Poland

DAJ OGNIA is a collective based in Krakow, Poland, whose music is most often described as dark or alternative folk. The band’s creative world exists in “a village that never was” - a mythical space where imagination, ancient legends, and an archaic spirit converge.

Roaming between Poland and Scandinavia, DAJ OGNIA perform at barn dance parties, funeral feasts, and in sacred groves. They stop at taverns standing on the frozen Baltic Sea, creating music for villagers and townspeople alike - music meant both for dancing and for contemplation.

Drawing inspiration from an old myth about the Baltic Sea freezing over in winter, the musicians tap into both Polish and Scandinavian musical traditions. Using archaic instruments found in these regions and a theatrical manner of performance, they weave together melodies of melancholic longing with wild, trance-like dances. DAJ OGNIA’s original compositions revive the fiery rituals and revels of bygone times, inviting the listener to immerse themselves in a forgotten yet vividly alive world of folklore.
