CATALEPSIA

Catalepsia is a Latvian gothic rock / doom metal band originally founded in 2005 by then teenager Ervīns Francs who cites both Type O Negative and My Dying Bride as major influences. Despite numerous line-up changes guitarist Juris Kreilis and drummer Krišjānis Purens have been a part of Catalepsia since late 2009. For several years the band was merely a side project for the young singer who had also joined forces with Latvian doom metal veterans Heaven Grey. Catalepsia even ceased to exist from 2011 till 2013, until finally in 2014 Francs announced leaving Heaven Grey to fully commit to Catalepsia. In fall 2015 the band released its debut album World of Cliché which was awarded best album of the year at the Latvian Metal Music Awards 2015. In early 2016 the band shocked both metalheads and Eurovision fans by participating in the Latvian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest and even managing to finish second in what could only be described as a breathtaking photo finish. Currently Catalepsia explores new frontiers by playing their blend of doom in many venues where no metal band has gone before and channels ideas for its second album.
